1.0 TASK 1 (a)
1.1 NETWORKED
Networked : Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong
Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong is a very interesting and determine person. He was known as the person who change Genting Highlands from an unknown and unexplored hilltop to the one of the most successful casino resorts and that really fascinated me as he is a person who can thinks about something brilliant at that time. The most interesting fact is that Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong manages to open a casino in an Islamic country.
From the history of Genting Highlands, Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong was manage to establish it by using the networked that he had with some powerful person in this country such as Tan Sri Dato' Haji Mohammad Noah bin Omar and Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Hamid Halim Shah who is the Prime Minister at that time.
With Dato’ Noah Omar, Tan Sri Lim manage to cooperate with him and successfully obtained approval for the alienation of 12,000 acres and 2,800 acres of land from the Pahang and Selangor State Government respectively between the years 1965 and 1970. His networked with Dato’ Noah Omar make it possible for Tan Sri Lim to make his ideas to build a highland resort or his “dream resort” turns into a reality. As the return, Dato’ Noah had becoming director for Genting Highlands.
Next, networked between Tan Sri Lim with Tunku Abdul Rahman. By this network, Tan Sri Lim manages to get a gaming license that allows him to open a casino at his resort. The interesting part is that Tan Sri Lim was the only person who had that license in this Islamic country.
From this example, we can make a conclusion that networked is really important, especially for entrepreneurs because with networked, we can get rid of something that's blocking our way to success and we also can make the impossible possible. Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong was the perfect example of that.
1.2 OPEN RISK TAKER
Open Risk Taker : Bill Gates
William Henry Gates, better known as Bill Gates, born in Seattle, Washington on October 28, 1955. His father, William Henry Gates worked in a law firm as an attorney and her mother, Mary Maxwell was a former teacher. Bill is the second of three siblings. Since childhood, Bill has a hobby "hacking", even up to now this activity was still often did when he was "thinking".
Bill Gates evidence of a willingness to take risks is to contact the manufacturer of Bill Altair, the MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems). He said that he and his friend Allen has made BASIC that can be used by Altair. Even BASIC was not made by them again. If they cannot show it to Altair BASIC for a specified period they will have detrimental effects. But due to the nature of the risk-takers. They have successfully completed within 8 weeks. The result of their efforts is accepted by Altair and they can work there.
In addition, evidence shows that he take risks when he stopped studying at Harvard just to pursue his dream to set up Microsoft. It is because of his deep interest in computers. Guided by the belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for personal computers. Thanks to his hard work, he and his friend Paul Allen managed to make Microsoft so dubbed the world's richest people. Finally, if we dare to take the risk involved in anything you want and be accompanied by hard work certainly success will be ours.
1.3 OBSERVATION
Observation : Jack Ma
In 1994, Ma heard about the Internet. In early 1995, he went to the United States and with his friends' help he got introduced to the Internet. During his first encounter he searched the word "beer". Although he found information related to beer from many countries, he was surprised to find none from China.
Furthermore, he tried to search for general information about China and again was surprised to find none. So, he and his friend created an "ugly" (according to Ma) website related to China. Within five hours of creating the website he had received emails from some Chinese wishing to know about him. This is when Ma realized that the Internet had something great to offer.
In 1999, he decided to quit and went back to Hangzhou with his team in order to found “Alibaba” in his apartment with a group of 17 friends. Through the online business, Jack Ma can improve the quality of his company's Ali Baba. In addition, Jack Ma strives to find ideas and other initiatives to facilitate customers to buy and continue to deal with his company. For Jack Ma, the customer is very important in order to help improve his company's bottom line.
Jack Ma think Internet are the most suitable method to do his business. And finally he had approve to the world that Internet is useful to make a business. This action are coming from the observant traits. That's why entrepreneur must have observant before doing a business.
1.4 VISIONARY
Visionary : Steve Jobs
Apple introduced when Steve Jobs had realized there was a huge gap in the computer market. At that time almost all computers were mainframes. They were so large that the one could fill a room. And costly that individual could not afford to buy them. Advances in electronics, however, meant that computer components were getting smaller and the power of the computer was increasing.
Later, Apple introduced such revolutionary products as the MacBook air, iPod and iPhone, all of which have dictated the evolution of modern technology. Almost immediately after Apple releases a new product, competitors scrambles to produce comparable technologies. Apple’s quarterly reports improved significantly. So, it improves Steve Jobs is a visionary entrepreneur that always creates a new modern devices that make society getting easier.
1.5 FAILURE IS AN OPTION
Failure is an Option : Dato’ Sani bin Salleh
His full name is Dato’ Wan Mohammad Sani bin Salleh. He took a diploma in Business Management College Sunway (1994). Dato’ Sani was a Managing Director in Sani United Sdn. Bhd. His achievements are Awarded Degrees Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) which carries the title Datuk, by the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah (June 2009) and the Outstanding Entrepreneur Award Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM) Kuala Lumpur (April 2009).
When he was asked about why the transportation industry is at stake, Dato’ Sani said, for no other reason except that sector are so challenging and require a strong will because it is not easy, but also quite a lot of risk. So, we can see that Dato’ Sani has a big responsibility and confidence to do this transportation business.
‘’Ipoh 26 December 2009 - 10 passengers died when a double-decker bus that Sani Express bus skidded and hit the road at km 272.7 north-south highway leading to the north, last Saturday morning. The fatal accident occurred and horror around 1:00 this morning in the middle lane, about 5km from the highway barn. Two other passengers were also seriously injured. The incident is caused when the bus hit the road divider to the left of the highway leading to most of the victims were passengers left the ground floor of the bus. (Akhbar Utusan Malaysia)’’
Sani Express bus had experienced a terrible accident, but Dato’ Sani does not give up easily. After the incident that happen to his company, Dato’ Sani always thinking about some alternatives that can help him to push up the company. He realized that, there would be failures and obstacles along the way to achieve success and took that risk founding Sani Group in 2011. Dato’ Sani who has strong work ethic and integrity have earned him numerous awards and commendations.
Dato’ Sani believed, the industry is changing and it’s all about adding value now. To chase the billion marks, he was separating the group companies and allowing them to focus more strongly on their core market and strengthen the operations so that each can contribute more efficiently to the whole as a whole.
Now, he also had successful has its own hotel. Her business is thriving and has reached his goal. And now he just needs to monitor and to plan for his company continues to thrive. So it is evident that ‘failure is an option’ found in personality of Dato’ Sani. Eventually, he became a successful and famous entrepreneurs from various aspects. Although, the company he set up through many crises and severe criticism from the public, but he bounced back to prove that his company also the best and can successful like others transportation company.
1.6 OPEN CULTURE
Open Culture : Sergey Brin & Larry Page
They believe that when a person talk, we don’t look and judge the person who talked but we looked and judge what they talked. By doing so, they manage to gain lots of idea and that surely can improve and also give a positive impact to their company. Besides that, they also apply this creative and unique rules in their company where all the employees in their company can speak and provide idea directly to them either using direct email or face to face. What's special about this rules are, everybody in that company can provide ideas regardless their position in that company. This rule shows that both of them are so open minded in doing business.
Next, another character in both of them that show how open minded there are is when Google allow its engineers to spend 20% of their work week on projects that interest them, Google is able to tap into the many talents of its employees by doing so. The reasons why their area so open minded is because they believe that there a lot of room for improvement, there’s no inherent ceiling we’re hitting up on.
The conclusion is Sergey Brin and Larry Page reflect an extremely important attitude or traits called open culture. For me, that was the reasons why both of them gain lots of success until today and it will be good and useful for us to apply the same things as they do in our life.
1.7 OUTCOME ORIENTED
Outcome Oriented : Robert Kuok Hock Nien
The evidence that Robert Kuok an entrepreneur oriented outcome is that he has a lot of business it does. He also opened the first sugar cane fields in Perlis.
In addition, he helped develop the sugar cane business in Indonesia. This has made him one of the world's leading sugar traders. He not only focus on sugarcane and even business he also ventured into other areas by setting up a Bank Bhd. and Perbadanan Nasional Bhd. This establishment to attract Malay participation in the economy.
Furthermore, he was also involved in media and real estate. He founded Kerry Trading Company. Robert Kuok also have an interest in The Bangkok Post. Using KMP, he took over the TVE Holding involved in real estate, entertainment, retail and publishing.
In conclusion, Robert Kuok has orienting nature of the outcome to be emulated by entrepreneurs nowadays. This proves he was also concerned about profits in every his business. This is one of the features that should have successful entrepreneurs.
1.8 TEAM ORIENTED
Team Oriented : Tan Sri Tony Fernandes
Tony Fernandes was so team oriented that there is no difference between his worker and him. What his worker do, he will do and what his worker experience he will try to experience it to by doing all of his worker job/duty even though he is a boss and he do not have to do it but he still do it because he want to have a better understanding by “walking on the same shoes” as his worker do. Surely from that he will gain lots of respect from his worker.
Next, Tony Fernandes abolish the partition system in his company office. By doing that, he will work at the same room with his worker where his worker can see what he is doing and he also can see what his worker doing by the office hour. Maybe its look silly but just by doing that, his company performance improved from time to time. Try to look at a different perspective , when he do that, surely there are no person in that room who will slacking off when doing their job and that certainly will develop to a positive output of that company. Besides, his worker also can observe his attitude and will make him as their role-model and try to do the same as him.
To conclude, Tony Fernandes inspired people around him by his positive attitudes and that make him a better leader because people will follow him with respect instead of just following all of his order for salary and also the fact that he is the boss. No wonder he gain so much achievement and success in his carrier.

Top Ittipat is person who always thinks the result rather that the difficulties that he will go through to get the result. This can be seen when he tried to sell dried fruit as well as seaweed. He confidently, started to sell his product in the market and try to develop his product wider. He advertised his product to the big such as 7-Eleven company. But the next problem was he need to serve the seaweed by wholesale. Ittipat who still fried the seaweed in his little kitchen at his house, didn’t lose hope.

We can see this kind of trait in him when he reoriented his business efforts from gaming, DVD player and nuts business to other business which is seaweed snacks. He knew that at that time people are not familiar with seaweed and apparently it will not be profitable to the business. He dare to make a decision that he should try to invent something special since nobody selling it. So Top Ittipat was taking a risk, yet it brings him to success as a founder of seaweed snacks that popular in Asia until now.

He is an observant entrepreneur. He is very good at pay attention to detail or see something that happen around him. After the Tesco’s management did not allow him to use the roasting machine at his booths because its smoke carried the smell over the mall and dirtied the store's ceiling. Since no cooking activity was allowed, then the sales of the chestnut dropped vastly by 50%. In order to make up for it he then tried selling dried fruit as well as seaweed. After a few months, the seaweed became the best-selling product of the booth and it took over the Chestnut sales. Once he saw the potential with that, he produced more of it with 6 employees working at the kitchen in his house.
CONCLUSION
